There’s always great things happening in our classrooms and this week was no different.

Mrs. Harris shared this story about how her students put their lessons straight to action this week – staging an in-class peaceful protest:

To go along with our Famous Americans/Biography Unit in Social Studies, our read aloud for Language Arts is a historical fiction entitled Bud, Not Buddy.
We’ve been discussing a lot of Civil Rights events as well, given the topic and time of year, and these kids are fanatics over this book! One student even said, “Mrs. Harris, the first book you read to us was my favorite but now this one is! It keeps getting better and better!” This morning after they had been dismissed from our ‘read aloud’ time I turned around I saw these students (see photo) still sitting on the rug. When asked why they weren’t returning to their seats, they told me they were participating in a ‘peaceful protest’ like Martin Luther King in order for me to continue reading the story. I thought this was too cute not to share and snap a photo!

Great job of showing Mustang respect and working together!
