Readers Workshop:  NO Talking!   by Andrew Clements

Focus Question:  How do we communicate with others?  Is talking always necessary?

Skills:  Perspective, Tracking Your Thinking, Character Traits, Main/Minor Problems, Making Predictions, Text Evidence, Inferences, Character Evolution and Relationships

Vocabulary:  independence, commotion, vandalism, intercepted, tolerance, stereotypes

Writing:  Journaling, Perspective writing, descriptive paragraph

 

Math:Fractions and Geometry

This unit focuses on developing a general understanding of basic geometric figures, (vertices, sides, angles, edges, faces, 3-D figures), area/perimeter/symmetry, partitioning shapes into equal shares, representing halves, thirds, fourths (rectangles and circles) and beyond, comparing fractions, and understanding arrays.

Social Studies:  Writing the Story of the Past

The focus of this unit is learning about the past using artifacts and documents.  What can you learn?  What can’t you learn?

Vocabulary:  primary source, artifact, document,

Students will need to assemble a “Bio Bag” (brown bag) to represent themselves using artifacts and documents.  If another student inspects your bag, what information will they learn about you after inspecting your artifacts and documents?  What can’t they learn?
