Dr. John Scali has over 16 years of teaching experience in secondary science. Dr. Scali has received numerous awards, including being named as a 2016 winner of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

Throughout his career, Dr. Scali has developed student-centered classrooms that allow students to explore foundational scientific concepts and to advance beyond simply learning about science to interacting with the material and practicing the art of science.  John began working at MOT Charter School’s High School campus in its inaugural year. He has been instrumental in developing and driving the application of a science curriculum based on the Next Generation Science Standards. John led the MOT Charter High School’s Science Olympiad team and is an avid musician who also heads up the school’s rock band. In addition to working with high school students, John mentors first and second year science teachers through University of Delaware’s Alternative Routes to Certification program.

John is a three time graduate of the University of Delaware. earning his B.A. in Chemistry Education, M.Ed. in Science Curriculum and Instruction, and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in Science Curriculum. He is certified as a teacher of chemistry grades 9–12.
